20. Detroit Lions (15)

There’s been a lot of talk throughout the years about a curse being placed on the Detroit Lions by Bobby Layne. The former Lions quarterback was so upset with the team for trading that he said they would never win again — and they haven’t won a title since. While that curse has been widely covered, there could be another we are missing.

It seems as though the team can’t find a successful running game no matter how hard they try — an issue that goes back to the days of Barry Sanders running around their backfield. Sure, they could have a decent season here of there, but for the most part, their ground game has been a major issue.

Kerryon Johnson was supposed to help that and his 5.4 yard per carry average as a rookie gave them hope that they would finally have a ground game in 2019. Unfortunately, that never came to fruition as he’s currently on the injured reserve with a knee injury.

On Sunday, they managed 90 yards on the ground in a defeat but no player had more than 32 yards. Their passing game was stout as they had both Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones over 100 yards and a touchdown each, but the 3-4-1 franchise is anything but balanced. They’re also pretty much out of it in their division race and need some huge breaks to get into the Wild Card discussion.
