3. Baltimore Ravens (6)

Looking back over the past two draft classes, it’s starting to seem as though Lamar Jackson was the best quarterback taken. While Baker Mayfield set the record for touchdown passes by a rookie, he’s taken a step back this season whereas Jackson has been even more impressive than he was as a rookie.

In Week 9, he took another step forward as he led the Baltimore Ravens to a huge win over the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football. Jackson was cool, calm, and efficient in the game, completing 17-of-23 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown. He didn’t exactly light the Pats up, but he had no turnovers and added two more scores on the ground while rushing for 62 yards.

As has been the case this season, the ground game had a lot to do with the Ravens’ success in Week 9. They ran the ball 40 times on New England and it exposed a defense that had been one of the best in the league entering this one.

Mark Ingram was the leader of that rushing attack, amassing 115 yards on just 15 carries. Overall, the Ravens had 210 total yards and three scores on the ground.

Even more impressive was the play of their defense. They haven’t been as dominant this season as in prior years but they were up to the task against Tom Brady and company. Earl Thomas picked off a pass from Brady and Marlon Humphrey returned a Julian Edelman fumble 70-yards for a touchdown.

Now at 6-2, they leapfrog a few teams, such as New England, because they’re simply firing on all cylinders at the moment.
