In Week 2, the New Orleans Saints were dealt a blow as Drew Brees suffered a thumb injury that required surgery. One simple play looked to have set their season back as Brees’ throwing hand hit Aaron Donald’s helmet in their loss to the Los Angeles Rams. They had faith in their backup though as Teddy Bridgewater was thrown into action.

The hope was they could tread water with Bridgewater (no pun intended) until their star came back. That’s not how it went though as TBH20 was beyond impressive. He led the Saints to five wins in five starts while throwing nine touchdowns against just two interceptions. He played so well that some were wondering if the team needs to make him the starter in 2020 and move on from the 40-year-old Brees.

In Week 8, Brees returned to the field and looked as sharp as ever, reminding everyone why the team believes in him above anyone else. He threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns as they moved to 7-1 on the year with a 31-9 win over Arizona.

Now they head into the bye week in full control of their division. Brees will have even more time to get comfortable with his recently repaired thumb and should have no problem making a run once again in the postseason.”
