Seattle Seahawks: Studs and duds vs. Buccaneers in Week 9
By Samuel Teets
Stud: Russell Wilson, QB
Wilson has the third-most passing touchdowns by a quarterback in his first eight seasons. He passed Brett Favre on Sunday and only sits behind Peyton Manning and Dan Marino. That’s pretty good company for the future Hall of Famer.
After his performance against Tampa Bay, Wilson has to be in the driver’s seat for the league MVP award. He was already leading the league in passing touchdowns heading into Week 9, and he added five more against the Buccaneers.
Wilson also completed 67.44 percent of his pass attempts against the Bucs and posted a 133.7 passer rating. Wilson has only posted a sub-100 passer rating once this season. His 115.5 passer rating led the NFL entering Week 9, and he has only improved upon his lead.
Wilson completed 29 of his 43 pass attempts for 378 yards on Sunday. The Seahawks need a similar performance from his next week when they take on the undefeated San Francisco 49ers.
Dud: Jason Myers, K
The Seahawks did everything they could to set Myers up for a game-winning field goal in the final seconds of regulation. Instead of rising to the challenge though, Myers missed his third kick on the day. It wasn’t a long-shot attempt either. The kick was only from 40 yards out.
Myers missed two field goals and an extra point on Sunday. Besides the last-second kick, he also missed a 47-yard field goal in the first half. He also missed an extra point, which is taken from 33 yards out. If Myers makes any of those three kicks, then the Seahawks would have won in regulation.
Last season, Myers was a Pro Bowler for the New York Jets and connected on more than 90 percent of his field goal attempts and extra point tries. This season, he is connecting on just 70.59 percent of his field goal attempts. Even 40-year-old Sebastian Janikowski was more efficient more Seattle last season.
