Pittsburgh Steelers: 3 Bold predictions vs. Rams, Week 10
By Samuel Teets
1. Steelers allow less than 100 rushing yards
A lot was said about Todd Gurley‘s knees and health this offseason. The two-time First-Team All-Pro repeatedly brushed off reports and concerns, but no one can deny his lack of success this season. Something is wrong with Gurley.
During his two-year stretch as the best back in football, Gurley averaged 88.1 rushing yards per game, 47.2 receiving yards per game, and 4.8 yards per carry. This season, he’s averaging 50.7 rushing yards per game, 11.6 receiving yards per game, and 3.9 yards per carry. Regardless of what he says to the media, something is wrong with Gurley.
The Rams are also suffering from poor offensive line play. The team lost center John Sullivan and guard Rodger Saffold during the offseason, which has left them in a peculiar situation. With an aging Andrew Whitworth, the team has been unable to establish the running game. Surprisingly, Goff is taking fewer sacks this year, but the offensive line has still been a problem in Los Angeles.
The Rams are currently rushing for 97.2 yards per game and the Steelers are allowing 107.5 rushing yards per game. Considering the Steelers have faced the two best rushing teams in football this year, Baltimore and San Francisco, it’s miraculous their defense has been so stingy.
Considering Pittsburgh’s defensive strength is centered on the defensive line, the Rams will struggle running the ball on Sunday. Their game plan will likely focus on getting Goff into a rhythm early. If their pass attack catches fire, the Rams will simply outpace the Steelers on the scoreboard. The run game will be forgotten.
