4. Denver Broncos

Who would’ve thought that Joe Flacco would not be the answer for the Denver Broncos? At the time of that trade, it felt like everyone remotely concerned with the NFL knew that it was going to be a bad idea, except for John Elway, the one making the decisions in Denver. And lo and behold, here we are with the Broncos sitting at three wins and now starting Brandon Allen with Flacco injured.

Elway’s plight to find a quarterback has infamously been ill-fated throughout the entirety of his tenure with the Broncos. Whether it’s been Paxton Lynch or Trevor Siemian or a number of others, the only time Elway has found the right guy for the job in Denver has been when he made the move to sign Peyton Manning — arguably the biggest no-brainer decision he could’ve made at that time.

To be sure, Denver is not a great quarterback away from winning the Super Bowl. Their offensive line is a mess and the defense is not at the level that they once were, even if they are still a solid group with some superstars littering the depth chart. Having a quarterback like Cam Newton, however, would make things easier.

For all of his misses, Elway is not shy about trying to take his chances and get his guy at quarterback. Perhaps he could do that again by going after Newton. A healthy Newton would be a massive upgrade and might be the right type of player to handle the shortcomings that the Denver offense still has. If nothing else, it could be worth a shot to try and find quarterback magic on the open market once again.
