2. Indianapolis Colts

This one might rub some people the wrong way and it’s understandable as to why. Frank Reich and the Indianapolis Colts lost Andrew Luck to retirement coming into the season and many fans were ready to write them off. Instead, they put backup Jacoby Brissett into the starting job and he’s performed beautifully this season.

Though Brissett suffered an injury in Week 9, the Colts have been in the AFC South and playoff mix throughout the year. That’s a testament to Reich’s ability as a coach, the overall roster that general manager Chris Ballard has built over the past few years and, yes, to how Brissett has played.

While that may all be true, the simple fact remains that Brissett is a good player with a defined ceiling. As well as he’s played this season, there are always going to be heights that he’s simply not capable of reaching. The result is that it makes Reich’s job as the head coach more difficult to win games with Brissett than it would be with Cam Newton.

Despite how good of a fit Newton could be in Indianapolis, working with a creative offensive mind like Reich that could unlock some special play from the quarterback, it does feel unlikely to happen. The Colts appear content with Brissett and it also doesn’t seem like a move that Ballard would make given his track record. That doesn’t make the fit any less enticing though.
