1. Chicago Bears

If you’re looking for the obvious spot where Cam Newton should land, it’s the Chicago Bears. There is no team with a roster that’s readymade to win right now but needs stability and an upgrade at quarterback more than Matt Nagy’s team right now. Obviously, that’s thanks to the disappointing and lackluster play of Mitchell Trubisky.

Taken with the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft — when the Bears traded up one spot with the 49ers to get him — Trubisky had his question marks as a one-year starter out of North Carolina. He certainly wasn’t done any favors in year one under John Fox but showed some progression in 2018 with Nagy taking over. But in 2019, he’s regressed tremendously and has looked downright awful at times.

When you look at the rest of this team, though, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be winning. The offensive line has under-performed but is fine, Khalil Mack and the defense remain a premier group in the NFL, the weapons around the quarterback like Allen Robinson and Tarik Cohen are there and the situation seems bred for success.

While Newton has had his share of ups and downs, he’s far more gifted and has shown way more highs that Trubisky has even flashed. If he’s indeed healthy, the Bears would be criminally mismanaging their team to not make a move to get the current Panthers quarterback. He could truly be the difference between fighting for playoff spots and winning the Super Bowl.
