3. Zach Brown, LB

Packers starting inside linebacker Blake Martinez has been fairly disappointing this season and the Packers could be in the market for a new defensive signal-caller this coming offseason. Free-agent linebacker Zach Brown would provide a similar skill-set to Martinez, but could be had for a much cheaper rate than Martinez going forward.

Brown spent the past two seasons with the Washington Redskins before inking a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles before the start of the 2019 season. He was released by the Eagles after six games this season and signed with the Arizona Cardinals shortly after. He was once again released by the Cardinals this past week and is currently a free agent again.

Still just 30 years old, Brown could provide a cheap and effective option. Additionally, Brown’s former position coach, Kirk Olivadotti, currently serves as the Packers’ inside linebackers coach. Brown spent the previous two seasons in Washington with Olivadotti, so the familiarity is there. He would also join former teammate Preston Smith. Brown was PFF’s No. 3 overall linebacker in 2018 (subscription required).

Brown may be a locker room problem, though, which is one big reason Gutekunst might be reluctant to give him a shot. Time will tell if Brown gets another chance from a team this season, but his talent warrants consideration.
