2020 NFL Mock Draft: Joe Burrow is Dolphins guy, Raiders snag Henry Ruggs III
There’s a compelling argument to be made that Joe Burrow has been the best quarterback in college football this season. While I tend to agree with that assessment, one season shouldn’t outweigh the entire body of work that Tua Tagovailoa has put forth throughout his time with the Crimson Tide. In this mock draft, the Bengals agree as they nab the Alabama signal-caller.
By Benching Andy Dalton, it’s clear Cincinnati is ready to hit the reset button at quarterback moving forward. Rookie Ryan Finley is likely not the answer, so the Bengals turn to Tua. The left-handed thrower may not be the most physically impressive player, but his elite decision-making, accuracy and propensity for playmaking make him a dream for a franchise starting anew at the position.
You could certainly make the case for an elite edge rusher going to the New York Jets with the No. 2 overall pick. After all, that’s a position where they’ve been sorely lacking for about a decade. Having said that, when Sam Darnold says that he’s seeing ghosts on the field when he drops back, the biggest need becomes offensive line and Andrew Thomas from Georgia is a player worthy of going second off the board.
Thomas is a unique blend of size, great footwork and athleticism that would allow him to be a wall on Darnold’s blindside from Day 1. It remains to be seen if Adam Gase will be the coach for Gang Green beyond this year. Whoever is patrolling the sidelines beyond this season, though, their lives will be made easier with Thomas providing an immediate upgrade to the offensive line.
