Defense/Special Teams

Baltimore Ravens (at CIN, $4,000): The Bengals inexplicably benched nine-year starting quarterback Andy Dalton on his birthday, hours before the trade deadline ended, and handed the keys to rookie Ryan Finley. The Ravens should spoil his debut and help prove the notion that Dalton isn’t the problem in Cincinnati. This game has the makings of a train wreck, and the Ravens defense will reap the benefits.

Indianapolis Colts (vs. MIA, $3,500): This is a bit of a risky proposition with a backup quarterback at the helm, as offensive turnovers lead to points, limiting the upside of a fantasy defense. However, the Dolphins are primed to return the favor, led by boom-or-bust quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Colts have some sneaky young talent on the defensive side of the football, more than enough to bring the Mr. Hyde side out of the Harvard grad.

Los Angeles Rams (at PIT, $3,000): After an 85-point pillaging in a two-week span by Winston and MVP front-runner Russell Wilson in back-to-back games, the Rams defense has finally settled in. The unit has allowed just 13.3 points per game over their last 3 contests, and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph hasn’t exactly displayed a “wow” factor to put defenses on notice.

Buffalo Bills (at CLE, $2,900): It’s hard to ignore a solid Bills defense at this price, especially given the matchup against a quarterback currently ranked among the league leaders in turnovers. Sure, Mayfield and company are talented enough to turn things around at a moment’s notice, but the offensive grease fires in Freddy’s Kitchens each week are indelibly hard for human minds to extinguish.

Those with high-risk tolerances might be tempted by the Giants ($2,800) and Jets ($2,700), who face each other this week. Given relevant offensive struggles and injuries, reasonable arguments can be made to start either unit at its respective low price. However, equally compelling reasons to keep scrolling should cause most DFS players to pass right by the Meadowlands exit on their journey to successful lineup construction.
