Seattle Seahawks: Studs and duds vs. 49ers in Week 10
By Samuel Teets
Stud: Jadeveon Clowney, DE
This is the game-changer the Seahawks traded for. After registering just two sacks and seven quarterback hits through his first nine games as a Seahawks, Clowney came alive against the 49ers.
The three-time Pro Bowler recorded five tackles, a sack and five quarterback hits on Monday night. Seattle’s pass rush out-produced San Francisco’s, recording five sacks and 10 total quarterback hits. The 49ers produced five sacks and eight quarterback hits.
Clowney also recovered a Jimmy Garoppolo fumble and returned it for a short score late in the second quarter. At the time, the 49ers led the Seahawks 10-0. The momentum of the game entirely shifted after that play.
Later, Clowney forced a fumble in the third quarter which Poona Ford recovered. Carson plunged in for a one-yard touchdown shortly thereafter, giving Seattle a 21-10 lead.
Dud: Josh Gordon, WR
This might seem harsh considering Gordon hasn’t had enough time to build a rapport with Wilson, but finding duds from this game was difficult. Gordon only caught two passes for 27 yards, which is below the 47.8 yards per game he averaged with the Patriots earlier this year.
Gordon is only 28, but he’s far from the player who led the league in receiving yards in 2013. This isn’t the same player, no matter how many shirtless pictures of him appear on the internet. At this point in his career, Gordon is just an auxiliary weapon, not a star. Some people have forgotten that.
Both Gordon and Tyler Lockett didn’t have great games on Monday night. Lockett only caught three passes for 26 yards, but he was sent to the hospital because of a lower left leg contusion. Per The Seattle Times‘ Adam Jude, head coach Pete Carroll said:
"“It’ll be OK, but it’s a pretty severe situation for right now. … We’re ahead of it, so we should be in good shape.”"
Considering the impressive season Lockett has had up to this point and how serious the injury sounds, it didn’t feel right including Lockett as an official entry in this article. Here’s hoping he gets better soon because the Seahawks will need his Pro Bowl production down the stretch. Lockett deserves to finish his breakout season strong.
