S. player. 851. Pick Analysis. 2. Scouting Report. Texas. Brandon Jones

Dallas nearly pulled off a trade for safety Jamal Adams right at the deadline this season. The New York Jets safety would have been a huge boost to their secondary but the price was simply too high. With him not coming in, all eyes are going to look at his old school, LSU. There is where Grant Delpit plays and he’s easily the best in the draft class.

Unfortunately, Delpit will likely go too high for Dallas to get, which is why they went with Javon Kinlaw in the first — who is no consolation prize. The same can be said of Brandon Jones, the Texas safety who gets to stay in the Lone Star State as he goes to the Cowboys here in the second round.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen Xavier Woods blossom into a good free safety. His instincts are starting to show up and he’s made a couple of impressive interceptions this season. Jones would be a great compliment to the deep safety as he’s known more for his ability to lay the ball carrier out.

His ball skills are lacking, but it’s not as if that’s something that has held any Dallas defender back — none of them seem to get turnovers. What he can do is provide great run support while playing an enforcer role in the secondary — something that has been lacking for years.

Current starter Jeff Heath has some leadership traits and is great on special teams, but his missed tackles have become an albatross. Jones shouldn’t have the same issues.
