Back on the clock in the fifth-round, the Dallas Cowboys add some depth to their linebacker corps. They have some of the best in the game playing here with Leighton Vander Esch, Jaylon Smith, and Sean Lee already on the roster — although there are no guarantees Lee will be back in 2020.

What they need to do is add some depth, which is why they grab Colorado’s Nate Landman. This 235-pound linebacker is nicknamed “The Hammer” due to his powerful hits and ability to stuff the run. He recorded 104 tackles as a sophomore and has 96 as a junior in just 10 games this season.

He has limitations with coverage as he lacks desired athleticism but he’s got a nose for the ball and anyone who can shut down the run can help this defense.

There’s not a spot on the Cowboys roster for a starting tackle as Tyron Smith and La’el Collins are locked down for a few more seasons each. They also have Cameron Fleming under contract as their swing tackle, which has been a blessing for them considering how often Smith has been hurt in recent seasons.

What they need though, are more developmental players that can turn into solid backups. After sitting out the sixth round, Dallas uses their final pick to add that depth with Charlie Heck from North Carolina.

He’s played both right and left tackle and has shown an ability to use his quickness as a pulling blocker in the run game. He’s far from a finished product but there’s a lot to like about his game.
