One Last Thing

I don’t despise mock drafts; I just find them mostly meaningless. That’s why I only release one complete mock draft, and I do it on the day of the NFL Draft. However, some mock drafts can be good to see where each team is picking, what each team needs and what players are getting drafted where.

This mini mock draft is if I were in the front office’s shoes. For example, I’m not sold on Joe Burrow yet, but if I were Bengals’ general manager Mike Brown, I feel like I’d probably be more intrigued by Burrow than Tua Tagovailoa. Please don’t yell at me.

1. Cincinnati – Joe Burrow, QB, LSU
I correctly paired all the first-round quarterbacks (and Drew Lock) to their teams in last year’s Draft, and I’m getting the same feeling when I think about Burrow and the Bengals.

2. Washington – Chase Young, EDGE, Ohio State
This all depends on how Washington feels about Dwayne Haskins, but if they were smart, they would take the best player in the draft here.

3. New York Giants – Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia
General Manager Dave Gettleman loves his linemen. They need to protect turnover machine Daniel Jones, and Thomas looks like he could be the first offensive lineman taken.

4. Miami – Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama
It just seems like a match made in heaven. I heard Miami has wanted Tua since last season.

5. New York Jets – Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama
The Jets need many things, and while general manager Joe Douglas is more of a linemen guy, it would be such a Jets move to take a wide receiver here. At least Jeudy is incredible.

6. Atlanta – Grant Delpit, S, LSU
The Falcons suddenly have numerous holes to fill, mostly along the offensive line and secondary. Delpit seems like a logical fit in Dan Quinn’s defense, if Quinn stays in Atlanta.

7. Cleveland – Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa
Not a flashy pick from a flashy team, the Browns’ offensive line is killing them. Honestly, general manager John Dorsey can go in many ways here.

8.  Tampa Bay – Jedrick Wills, OT, Alabama
Another offensive lineman? Hey, Tampa Bay needs one, though a cornerback would help now, too.

9. Denver – Jeffrey Okudah, CB, Ohio State
An offensive lineman would go a long way, and even a quarterback is in the realm of possibilities. Okudah is too good and head coach Vic Fangio needs some new flare to his defense.

10. Arizona – Isaiah Simmons, LB, Clemson
As I said earlier, the Cardinals’ defense is holding them back. Simmons’ versatility would fit nicely in defensive coordinator Vance Joseph’s scheme.
