College Football Corner

While I don’t watch as much Saturday football as I do on Sunday, I still have plenty to say about all the happenings in college football. Here are some quick thoughts…

  • LSU’s win over Alabama did more than just knock LSU to the top of the rankings. It might have secured Joe Burrow a Heisman. More about him on the next slide…
  • LSU deserves to be No. 1, no debate about it.
  • This Chase Young story is overblown and irrelevant. This will not stop him from being the best player in the 2020 NFL Draft. Honestly, maybe sitting out the rest of the season is a good idea for his health and draft stock.
  • If Auburn beats Georgia this weekend, the SEC behind LSU and Alabama will get weird.
  • It’s great to see a team like Minnesota become a legitimate contender for the CFB Playoff.
  • Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell has gotten some NFL buzz in recent years, and while he couldn’t pull off the last-minute upset against Oklahoma, I’d love to see him get a look from a bigger program.
  • On the other hand, something about a smaller school breaking into the national spotlight is relieving. It’s annoying seeing the same programs at the top of the polls every single year.
  • I know he hasn’t seen much competition, but Trevor Lawrence has looked phenomenal since their near-loss to North Carolina on Sept. 28.
  • One reason I love the CFB Playoff: Home-and-homes. Schools know they need to play better competition and scheduling these two-game series are great for themselves and for their fans. Albeit, most of the scheduled series are too far in the future.
