Chicago Bears: 5 Players who must shine vs. Rams in Week 11
Allen Robinson, WR
Allen Robinson is one of the few bright spots on this struggling Chicago Bears offense. He looks like the wide receiver he was before his injury in 2017. He wasn’t fully healed last season and it showed.
This season, though, he is every bit the number one receiver the Bears expected when they signed him as a free agent last year. He has 53 catches for 618 yards and three touchdowns.
Robinson has been Trubisky’s favorite target. He has 80 targets this season, 25 more than the next player (Cohen). That total is 49 more than the next wide receiver (Taylor Gabriel with 31). His 53 catches are also the most, 15 more than Cohen (again Gabriel is the next wide receiver with 21).
Robinson will be important once again. If he can make some big catches and attract some attention, the other receivers will have more space. If he does that, the Bears can decide to use him as a decoy, since the defense needs to account for him.
Earlier this season, the Rams traded for cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Ramsey is one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL. The Rams brought him in for games just like this. They expect him to cover the other team’s best receiver one-on-one so they don’t need to double him.
If any receiver is familiar enough to take on Ramsey it’s Robinson. Both were teammates with the Jacksonville Jaguars. With Robinson the top receiver and Ramsey the top cornerback, they faced each other a lot at practices. Robinson looks forward to the matchup, per Yahoo Sports:
"Yeah, from the time he was in Jacksonville, we’ve had a lot of one-on-ones between me and him. From the time he got drafted. I definitely enjoyed it. It’s always fun to go against good competition."
Robinson needs to find a way to beat Ramsey to loosen up the coverage. If he makes a few plays, the Rams will have to decide if they double Robinson. It’ll be a difficult task, but if he does have success the Bears are in good shape to win the game.
