Week 17 at Lions

Given that he was trying to play in Week 11, you have to assume that Matthew Stafford will finally be back for the Detroit Lions — though there’s the possibility that they’re far enough out of the playoff race that they decide to rest him and let his back injury heal. In all honesty, it doesn’t matter in terms of how this game should play out.

After looking impressive early in the season, including a controversial and narrow 23-22 loss to Green Bay, the Lions defense has completely fallen off of a cliff as of late. They’ve been abhorrent at defending opposing passing attacks this season. They haven’t exactly been highly effective against the run either. No matter which way the Packers want to attack, though, they are balanced enough to take advantage of the great matchup.

Beyond that, the Lions remain a one-dimensional offense, with or without Stafford on the field. The injury to Kerryon Johnson has made that issue even worse than it once was as there is no one in the backfield that the Detroit coaching staff can truly trust.

The one concern for the Packers here in terms of predicting wins and losses would be if they’re resting players in Week 17. However, with the way the 49ers are playing and with the New Orleans Saints looming, my feeling is that they’ll still be playing for playoff positioning in this contest. As such, Green Bay will finish off the regular season with a victory, likely locking up a first-round bye in the postseason.

Predicted Outcome: Win
Final Record: 13-3
