One Last Thing

While temperatures may be dropping, these coaches’ seats are heating up. I avoided first-year coaches, though I don’t buy that Adam Gase will be the Jets’ coach next year. It seems like smoke to me in an effort to keep the organization from totally falling apart. (It’s hanging by a thread.) Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Keep in mind that this list will look very different in Week 16…

Dan Quinn, Atlanta Falcons

A two-game win streak certainly cools his job, but it doesn’t undo the disappointment that preceded it. Quinn will have to do more than just win a majority of the games left; he’ll have to prove he can adapt and thrive in another season in Atlanta.

Doug Marrone, Jacksonville Jaguars

I could say the same thing that I said about Marrone’s seat back in Week 5:

"“Marrone’s issue is regression and team fit. They went 5-11 last season after reaching the conference championship the year prior. Also, Marrone doesn’t seem to mesh well with the roster, as evident by his confrontation with Jalen Ramsey (albeit, it is Jalen Ramsey). -Me, NFL Notebook, Week 5."

Freddie Kitchens, Cleveland Browns

Ditto to Kitchens, who hasn’t lived up to the stockpile of hype that was plopped on him and the Browns. The way things are going in Cleveland, I’d bet on Kitchens’ release by the start of next season. This roster was just too much for him, as evident by Thursday night’s scrappy performance. (I don’t think Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley wants to leave Norman, but it’s worth a shot to ask, right?)

Anthony Lynn, Los Angeles Chargers

If you had told me before the season that I would be putting Lynn’s name on this list, then I would have assumed the season would be another massive disappointment. Lynn’s seat was almost temporarily cooled last night, Philip Rivers went full Philip Rivers. The Chargers have so much talent, but at what point do injuries become the excuse again?
