3. Packers defense records three sacks

The Packers have one of the best pass-rushing duos in the NFL in Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith, and 49ers starting left tackle Joe Staley has already been ruled out for Sunday’s game. With Jimmy Garoppolo needing ample protection in order to be an effective passer, the opportunity to pile up sacks exists for a hungry Packers pass-rush.

The Smith brothers have already combined for 18.5 sacks through 10 games this season, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see both notch another on Sunday night. 49ers right tackle Mike McGlinchey has proven to be a liability at times, while backup rookie left tackle Justin Skule will face his toughest test of the season thus far.

The Packers have 25 sacks through 10 games, which ranks 16th in the NFL. According to Pro Football Focus (subscription required), the 49ers offensive line has a pass-blocking grade that ranks 20th in the league. The Packers’ ability to affect the quarterback without sending an extra blitzer will be huge. Four-man pass-rushes have worked effectively all season for Green Bay, and Sunday night should be no different.

The opportunity to make Garoppolo uncomfortable and record sacks is present. I’m predicting at least three sacks for Green Bay’s defense, which could prove extremely costly for San Fran.
