3. Denver Broncos

Staying in the AFC West would not be a popular decision for Philip Rivers but it’s a viable option when you look at the Denver Broncos. General manager John Elway has proven time and again that he loves to take a shot at a veteran quarterback leading his team, trying to recapture the magic that he did with Peyton Manning that led to a Super Bowl 50 victory.

That, in addition to his quarterback drafting, has fallen short since Manning was in Denver. Case Keenum wasn’t the answer and, prior to being put on IR this season, neither was Joe Flacco. Meanwhile, the fact that Brandon Allen is starting over second-round rookie Drew Lock does not inspire confidence that Lock can be the guy anytime soon.

Subsequently, Rivers could be an enticing option. From the perspective of the quarterback, he wouldn’t have to move his family completely across the country to transition to playing for Denver, which is clearly something that matters to him. In the case of the team, though, they have enticing enough talent to make you think Rivers could provide a spark.

If Denver were to address their offensive line in the offseason, Rivers would have talented players like Phillip Lindsay, Courtland Sutton and Noah Fant to roll with on offense while Von Miller and Bradley Chubb still anchor a talented defense. This could be Elway’s chance for lightning to strike twice with a veteran quarterback if Rivers were willing to head to the Mile High City.
