Fantasy Football Week 13: Quarterback rankings for 2-QB leagues
By Dan Salem
We get a break in Fantasy Football week 13 as every team is playing. This forces several bad quarterbacks out of the top 24, thankfully. This is your exclusive QB rankings for 2-QB leagues.
Mason Rudolph got benched in Fantasy Football Week 12, replaced by Devlin Hodges in the second half of Pittsburgh’s game again Cincinnati. In less than a half, Hodges was not bad, accumulating 8.8 fantasy points. It was good enough to push him into the top 24 quarterback scorers for the week.
No one started Hodges for obvious reasons. Interestingly enough, one half of Hodges was more fantasy points than Matt Ryan managed. It was more than Dak Prescott could muster in that storm against the Patriots defense. It was also more than Jared Goff and Derek Carr had COMBINED.
Hodges has already been named the Steelers starter for Fantasy Football Week 13. We’ll see if he cracks the top 24. With more turnover coming in Detroit (injury) and Cincinnati (ineptitude), along with every team being past their bye week, could there be a slot available for him? Who’s the best quarterback play in Fantasy Football Week 13? We’ve got your exclusive rankings right here.
Two brothers from New York, Dan Salem and Todd Salem, debate Fantasy Football Week 13 in today’s NFL Sports Debate.
Fantasy Football Week 13 – The Top 12
Patrick Mahomes (Dan’s Ranking: 1, Todd’s Ranking: 1), Drew Brees (Dan: 3, Todd: 2), Aaron Rodgers (Dan: 2, Todd: 4), Lamar Jackson (Dan: 4, Todd: 3), Russell Wilson (TIE – Dan: 5, Todd: 6), Jameis Winston (TIE – Dan: 6, Todd: 5), Sam Darnold (Dan: 7, Todd: 8), Dak Prescott (TIE – Dan: 8, Todd: 9), Kyler Murray (TIE – Dan: 10, Todd: 7), Ryan Tannehill (Dan: 9, Todd: 10), Josh Allen (TIE – Dan: 11, Todd: 12), Deshaun Watson (TIE – Dan: 12, Todd: 11)
13. Kirk Cousins (Dan: 14, Todd: 13)
Dan Salem: Cousins gets a tough matchup, but has been playing well enough to warrant being high on our list this week. He’s better than everyone below, which may not be saying a lot right now.
Todd Salem: Coming off a bye, the Vikings had a lot of time to prepare for this huge Week 13 matchup against Seattle. Cousins has only had one disappointing outing in his last seven games. Oddly, it came against the easiest opponent.
14. TIE – Carson Wentz (Dan: 13, Todd: 17)
Dan Salem: I know he’s been bad, but Wentz is due for a prove-it game. He needs to earn back the trust of him teammates and Miami is the perfect opponent to do so. The Eagles can seize their division and I believe Wentz comes through.
Todd Salem: A matchup against Miami is the only thing that saves Wentz and the Eagles this week.
14. TIE – Nick Foles (Dan: 15, Todd: 15)
Dan Salem: Foles gets a nice matchup with Tampa Bay, so hopefully he turns a corner and puts up some decent fantasy numbers this week.
Todd Salem: A good matchup offers Foles an opportunity to be more than just okay, which he’s been since returning from IR.
16. Matt Ryan (Dan: 17, Todd: 14)
Dan Salem: Which New Orleans defense will show up? Thursday football is a tricky game, and Ryan has been coming up short more often than not.
Todd Salem: Matt Ryan was rolling before his injury. He has been the opposite ever since. His last good game was Week 6. He has to be used in two-quarterback leagues but should be avoided in standard leagues this week.
17. Tom Brady (Dan: 22, Todd: 16)
Dan Salem: Brady scares me just as much as Rivers. His team is dominating with defense and Houston is giving up a lot of points. I’m just not confident that Brady will take advantage.
Todd Salem: Brady has been on the Matt Ryan schedule. Since Week 6, he’s been okay to bad, except there is no injury to point to. The entire New England offense has been off.
18. TIE – Baker Mayfield (Dan: 16, Todd: 23)
Dan Salem: I’m less concerned about Mayfield after several solid weeks. He appears to be gaining momentum, so jump on board.
Todd Salem: If the Browns didn’t just face Pittsburgh, I’d have Mayfield higher. I am extremely worried about him facing an elite defense so soon after getting the better of them.
18. TIE – Kyle Allen (Dan: 18, Todd: 21)
Dan Salem: With a juicy opponent, Allen is a nice play for week 13. Washington has not stopped anyone and Carolina desperately needs to bounce back.
Todd Salem: Is this the start of something big for Allen? He had a great game last week and now gets two easy opponents in a row, beginning with Washington this week. The weekly Allen-versus-Mason Rudolph showdown on these rankings has ended anyway, so we might as well put Allen to good use!
20. Phillip Rivers (Dan: 21, Todd: 19)
Dan Salem: I’m scared of Rivers and the Chargers right now. Arizona has not been playing great defense, but it’s unclear if that will matter in this game.
Todd Salem: It is hard to generate the same off-bye excitement for Rivers as I have for Cousins. The Chargers have been one of the biggest disappointments in the league. Some of the particulars of his peers coming up on this list make him preferable in my mind though.
21. TIE – Jimmy Garoppolo (Dan: 19, Todd: 22)
Dan Salem: I expect a defensive game, but Garoppolo could surprise us. It’s a risky spot, especially against Baltimore.
Todd Salem: This is a tough spot for Jimmy G. Facing the best team and one of the best defenses in the league, Garoppolo will likely rely heavily on his running game. If Baltimore has a weakness, it is definitely defending the run. I wouldn’t expect San Francisco to pass all that much unless they are playing constant catch-up early in the contest.
21. TIE – Derek Carr (Dan: 23, Todd: 18)
Dan Salem: The Chiefs defense is suspect, but after Carr put up a stinker last week, it’s hard to feel confident in him right now. Oakland needs this game, so there is certainly extra motivation.
Todd Salem: Carr had his worst game of the year in an odd spot against a weak opponent. Before the Jets blunder, Carr had put together four really good outings in his last five games. His first game against KC wasn’t great, but it happened well before this mini-run of success. I’m expecting a bit of a bounce back.
23. TIE – Ryan Fitzpatrick (Dan: 20, Todd: 24)
Dan Salem: I’m unsure what to make of Fitzpatrick right now, but his opponent has been disappointing of late. The Eagles are unlikely to slow him down.
Todd Salem: Now that the byes are over, we have a slew of options for the final spots in our rankings. I went with Fitzpatrick because he felt the safest. How can you trust Goff against anyone? I don’t like that Brissett and the Colts aren’t throwing the ball down the field anymore. Daniel Jones offers some upside but doesn’t have a good matchup.
23. TIE – Andy Dalton (Dan: 24, Todd: 20)
Dan Salem: Someone has to be last and Dalton may be able to exploit the Jets secondary. Or he might be on his back all day since his team will not be able to run the football against New York. At least Dalton has upside.
Todd Salem: Can we trust him after his own team benched him? I say yes. Dalton was not bad throughout the first half of the season. It didn’t translate to any wins, obviously, but his fantasy numbers are solid. And he gets a favorable matchup in his return.
