Jason Garrett’s tenure with the Dallas Cowboys is quickly coming to an end. Could owner Jerry Jones have Bill Belichick in mind as a replacement?

There’s very little argument that Jason Garrett is not going to coach the Dallas Cowboys in 2020. The maligned head coach has been in a free fall the past few weeks and from the sound of his boss, nothing short of a Super Bowl berth is going to save his job.

Considering the team is 6-6 at the moment, that seems to be highly unlikely, which will lead to a new coaching search. Some of the names being mentioned have been Lincoln Riley, Greg Roman, and Josh McDaniels.

However, Cowboys insider Mike Fisher believes the team is going to cast a much bigger net. In a thread on Twitter, Fisher reeled off some big names, but none mentioned had the clout of his first name: Bill Belichick.

At this point, there’s no denying Belichick is the best coach in the game. He’s been with the New England Patriots since 2000 and has a stellar record of 235-80. He’s also gone 30-10 in the postseason while winning six Super Bowls.

The first question to ask is why would Belichick even consider heading to Dallas? Well according to Fisher, coaches want to go to Big D, even though the narrative says they don’t want to work for Jerry Jones.

"“Coaches privately call working for the #DallasCowboys ‘The Big Stage. This flies in the face of media misinfo that ‘Coaches wouldn’t want to work here.” — Fisher on Twitter"

Another reason could be that Belichick would be able to put his name in the record books once again. No NFL coach has ever won two Super Bowls with two franchises. With him already being considered the best in the game, winning in Dallas would all but seal that and silence even his staunchest critic.

Of course, this is all speculation at this point. The only connection between the head coach and the Cowboys is an encounter back in the 1990s when he asked Jones for a job and the owner declined — which he surely regrets now.

Next. Keeping Garrett right call, for now. dark

Still, it would be an interesting thing to see and according to Fisher, there’s a chance the team at least sends some feelers out to his reps after this season concludes.
