Draft Spotlight

Every week, I’ll dissect a college football player who recently grabbed the spotlight and what his future holds in the NFL. This week, I’ll be looking at a potential top running back in a loaded class.

Who: J.K. Dobbins, RB, Ohio State

What Works

  • Acceleration
  • Balance
  • Catching
  • Defensive recognition
  • Footwork
  • Low running style
  • Runs hard
  • Size (5-10, 217 pounds)
  • Strong finisher
  • Vision
  • Willing blocker

What Needs Work

  • Consistency as receiver
  • Quickness

The Scout’s Opinion

"“Dobbins is a short and choppy stepper as a runner. His feet are always active with small hop and skip steps, but after seeing the hole, Dobbins is able to accelerate through it as soon as his plant foot hits the ground. He shows to have a high level of balance as a runner and there’s hardly ever a situation of where he’s stuck in no man’s land.” – Jordan Reid, The Draft Network"

Outlook: Despite an underwhelming sophomore season, Dobbins has shined amongst a deep group of running backs. While his talent seems undeniable, some critics complain that Ohio State’s offensive line is the primary reason for Dobbins’ success.

Early Projection: Second-Round Pick
