NFC Championship: 5 San Francisco 49ers at 3 Green Bay Packers

Leading up to Sunday Night Football in Week 12, everyone was hyping up the matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers as a potential NFC Championship Game preview. And sure enough, here we are with those two teams facing off for the right to face the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

That Week 12 matchup, however, was not close. San Francisco outright dominated the Packers as they jumped out to a massive 23-0 lead going into halftime and poured it on further as they went on to win 37-8. Jimmy Garoppolo threw all over the Packers while the 49ers defense stifled Aaron Rodgers and every aspect of the Green Bay offense.

In a rematch at Lambeau Field, I suspect that Matt LaFleur isn’t going to allow that same thing to happen. He’ll almost surely be more aggressive in getting the ball out quickly from Rodgers’ hands to try and attack a 49ers secondary that is lacking in speed, though they’ve still played well this season. It’s not going to be a blowout if these two teams meet for the NFC crown.

Though the score will be closer though, the result will be the same. The 49ers smash-mouth brand of football on both sides of the ball simply doesn’t bode well for what the Packers like to do and will continue to cause them problems. Even with home field and having made it to this point, my money is on Shanahan and Saleh’s stylings winning out over LaFleur and Mike Pettine.

Winner: 49ers
