Super Bowl LIV: Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers

Here we have it — a Super Bowl LIV matchup at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. In the case of the former, this is the place they were supposed to get to based on preseason expectations. For the latter, this would be a trip that few people believed they were capable of making but they have more than proven capable through 12 games.

This is a fascinating clash as the high-octane Chiefs offense faces arguably the best defense in the NFL while the 49ers run-heavy offense goes up against one of the worst run defenses in the league. When you look at that matchup, you have to think that San Francisco can walk into this matchup unafraid and really push Kansas City.

As I’ve mentioned at every point with the Chiefs, though, their speed kills. And even if the 49ers will try to hit them in the mouth and get pressure on Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid is well aware of that and will certainly have his offense ready to get the ball out quick and let guys like Hill and Kelce make plays against defenders that simply can’t match up with their physical gifts.

A matchup between Kansas City and San Francisco could very well deliver an instant classic in terms of all-time great Super Bowls. When the dust settles in Miami, though, I believe too much in the explosiveness of the Chiefs offense and the talent of Mahomes to not ride them to the end. They’ll come through with the win, finally getting Reid the Lombardi Trophy he deserves.
