Trubisky played his best game this season

Trubisky has taken a lot of flack this season. There were high expectations for him and this offense but those expectations haven’t been fulfilled. Trubisky struggled mightily at times this season, causing fans and experts alike to wonder if he is the quarterback to lead this team. Speculation has run rampant that perhaps the Chicago Bears bring in either a veteran quarterback or draft one or maybe both to battle Trubisky for a starting job next season.

Even with all his struggles, Trubisky and the Bears still have a chance at the playoffs, albeit a small chance. The Bears have been in nearly all the games this season. Even so, they find themselves in this playoff predicament.

The Bears needed to win this game to keep their hopes alive. A loss against the Cowboys and the playoff hopes get dashed and the criticisms grow louder. Then there are the final three weeks filled with “what ifs” and what should happen” until free agency and draft begin.

Trubisky came through, though. This was arguably his best game. Yes, he threw for over 300 yards, had three touchdown passes, and was nearly flawless in the second half, but that was against a porous Lions defense.

This was a good Cowboys defensive unit. They ranked in the top 10 in scoring (eighth), total yards (eighth), passing yards allowed (eighth), and passing touchdowns (sixth). He went 23-for-31 for 244 yards and three touchdowns. He added the 63 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.

This was Trubisky’s most complete game of the season. After not eclipsing 300 total yards in his first 10 games, he’s done it on consecutive weeks. The Chicago Bears need him to come up big to keep hope alive. He’s done so for the past three games. Let’s hope he continues doing so for the rest of the season.
