The Dallas Cowboys appear as though they will finally address their dreadful kicking game as they will work out free agents on Monday, including a familiar face
Last season, the Dallas Cowboys surprisingly released Dan Bailey who was one of the better kickers in team history. In his place was Brett Maher, who was up and down as a rookie. Maher won the job due to his ability to drill long kicks, evident by his two connections from 62 yards out and one from 63. However, inside of 40 yards, he’s been shaky at best.
This season, he’s connected on just 20-of-30 and seems to be losing confidence. Dallas worked out kickers last week but stuck with Maher. Then he missed another kick against the Chicago Bears which may have signified the end of his run.
According to Dallas insider Calvin Watkins, the team will again work out kickers on Monday. The two names he mentioned were Kai Forbath and Tristan Vizcaino.

Both names have connections to Dallas, but Forbath goes back much further. Vizcaino worked out last week with two other kickers. He wasn’t signed but apparently did well enough to get a second look.
As for Forbath, he was a member of the Cowboys back in 2011. An undrafted rookie that year, Forbath was signed the same year as Dan Bailey.
He spent the season on IR but was let go after the year as Bailey had the job nailed down. Since then, he’s gone on to have a respectable career which included stops with the Redskins, Vikings, and most recently the Patriots who had him on the roster for one game.
Forbath was 1-of-1 on field goals but 1-of-2 on extra points — which has been his Achilles heel throughout his career. In 78 games, Forbath has made 85.8 percent of his field goals but has 12 missed extra points.
He still seems to be a better choice for the team since they need someone who can convert on the field goals, as Maher has been untrustworthy.
