Stock Up: Aaron Jones

For years, fantasy football owners have cried “FREE AARON JONES” as Mike McCarthy refused to give the young running back a lion’s share of the workload out of the backfield. On Sunday, he once again showed why every Packers fan and fantasy football manager has been in the corner of the running back as he delivered a huge performance that carried Green Bay to victory.

Jones garnered 16 carries for 134 yards and a touchdown against Washington, proving why he’s so valuable. Not only was he consistently getting quality yardage on every touch but he also broke off a number of big, chunk plays with the ball in his hands. Moreover, Jones also led the Packers in receiving, catching six of his seven targets for 58 yards on the day.

Though Jones is still giving up some of his workload to Jamaal Williams, which isn’t the end of the world. However, Jones has more than proven he should be the 1A option in the Green Bay backfield, averaging 4.5 yards per carry and catching 45 balls for 425 yards on the season. Oh yeah, he also has 15 total touchdowns on the year as well (12 rushing, three receiving).

With Aaron Rodgers and the passing game seemingly meandering in and out of rhythm on a week-to-week basis, Jones’ ability to provide the Packers offense with a stabilizing force is a huge weapon for them, one that they should be able to ride come playoff time.
