Seattle Seahawks: 3 Bold predictions vs. Panthers, Week 15
By Samuel Teets
After a disappointing loss to the Los Angeles Rams, the Seattle Seahawks need a win in Week 15 to stay in the fight for the first seed in the NFC.
After the San Francisco 49ers defeated the New Orleans Saints in the early window of games, the pressure was on the Seattle Seahawks to win in Week 14. Pete Carroll’s team came out flatfooted and never held the lead against the Los Angeles Rams, who earned a much-needed win in front of their home crowd.
The loss dropped the Seahawks back to the fifth seed in the NFC, the same place they held before Week 13. Now that San Francisco is one game ahead of Seattle, it looks like Week 17 will decide the winner of the NFC West.
However, that assumes that both Seattle and San Francisco will continue winning. While the Panthers have lost five consecutive games and fired Ron Rivera, it would be a mistake to overlook them. The Panthers have absolutely nothing to lose, and that could be problematic for Seattle.
The Seahawks should defeat the Panthers in Week 15, but it will be a closer game than you suspect. Here are three bold predictions for Sunday’s matchup.
3. Seahawks intercept Kyle Allen twice
In his first four starts this year, Allen threw seven touchdowns and zero interceptions. In the last seven weeks, the second-year quarterback has nine touchdowns and 12 interceptions. While Allen is still capable of winning games, it’s clear he can get off to poor starts and never recover.
The Seahawks don’t have an impressive pass defense. The team gives up the fourth-most passing yards per game, but the defense does have 13 interceptions this season. That ties Seattle with five other teams for third place in the league. The Seahawks recorded just 12 interceptions all last season. Quarterbacks average an 86.2 passer rating against Seattle, which places the Seahawks in the top ten for that category.
While the Seahawks give up a lot of passing yards per game, the defense clamps down in other ways. From forcing a surprising amount of interceptions, to keeping quarterbacks from being effective, Seattle boasts an improved secondary this year.
The key to disrupting Allen’s game lies in jumping on the young quarterback early. If he gets into a rhythm, it will be difficult to disrupt the struggling quarterback.
