College Football Corner

While I don’t watch as much Saturday football as I do on Sunday, I still have plenty to say about all the happenings in college football. Here are some quick thoughts…

  • I agree with the playoff rankings, though I think Ohio State could beat LSU.
  • I also agree with the Heisman finalists. Who would’ve thought I’d agree with them and the playoff seedings?
  • Told you Jake Fromm and Georgia are overrated. Kirby Smart’s first four years at Georgia are eerily similar to Mark Richt’s first four years at Georgia, by the way.
  • What has Lane Kiffin ever done to warrant so much hype?
  • I respect what Mike Norvell has done at Memphis, but I’m not sure if he’s the right guy for Florida State.
  • I can’t stand when coaches miss their team’s bowl game because they accepted a new job with another team. Obviously, no coach will want to be on the sidelines of a team they’re about to leave, but where’s the final send-off? Where’s the love? Remember Scott Frost’s final game at UCF after taking the Nebraska job? That resonated so well, and UCF won.
  • Speaking of Frost, four of his seven losses this year were by one score. I was about to chastise Frost, but that stat makes the 5-7 season a little more bearable, right?
  • There are some phenomenal wide receivers in college football that aren’t draft eligible. Clemson’s Justyn Ross, Ohio State’s Chris Olave and LSU’s Ja’Marr Chase all caught my eye this past weekend.
  • I’ll give credit to Baylor, who played better than I thought they would.
  • Ump Cam is amazing. The NFL desperately needs this.
