The Green Bay Packers have improved their defense dramatically but the offense could use a jumpstart in the 2020 NFL Draft and get one with this mock draft.

It was clear what the modus operandi for Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst was in the 2019 offseason. Knowing he had Aaron Rodgers, knowing he had a good offensive mind in Matt LaFleur taking over as head coach and knowing that the offense would be fine, the front office made a strong, aggressive and concerted effort to improve the defense.

Defending the run aside, that effort has worked. In the NFL Draft, the Packers used two first-round picks on that side of the ball, selecting edge rusher Rashan Gary and safety Darnell Savage. Furthering that mentality, Green Bay was also strong in free agency previously as they signed safety Adrian Amos and edge rusher Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith. The results have been quite good.

But the interesting thing that’s transpired, especially given the history of the Packers under Mike McCarthy, is that Green Bay’s offense has now taken a slight step back. Make no mistake, Rodgers has been good and the Pack is still humming as a whole, particularly with the breakout year from Aaron Jones. However, they have been inconsistent with the ball in their possession.

As the regular season ends, the postseason nears and the 2020 NFL Draft now draws closer, it’s time for the Packers to be looking to the future as to how they can improve the offense. They need more depth and long-term stability on the offensive line and need to diversify their passing-game weapons. And doing something at tight end might not be a bad idea either.

Beyond that, Green Bay would be wise to utilize the 2020 NFL Draft to put some depth on their defense, basically at every level. For the long-term sustained success of these Packers, they need to perform well at the end of April.

That’s what we’ll try to do here as we take a mid-December look at the draft and project how Green Bay can improve their roster. With that in mind, let’s dive into a seven-round 2020 NFL mock draft for the Packers.
