With three first-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins can set the foundation for their future and they do so in this 7-round mock draft.

The Miami Dolphins have enjoyed more success in the 2019 NFL season than most anyone would’ve projected them to. Through 14 weeks, they already have three wins on the season and have been competitive in several more games as well. However, they’re still heading towards earning a top-five pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Of course, the 2020 NFL Draft is somewhat of the Super Bowl for the Dolphins — exactly what they’ve been working for this year. After trading both Laremy Tunsil and Minkah Fitzpatrick either before the year or early in the season, the Dolphins now own three first-round picks in the 2020 draft. Additionally, they have an extra second-rounder, an extra fifth-rounder and two additional sixth-round picks.

The good news for the Dolphins is that there are very few positions where they don’t need help. Quarterback is their most obvious need to address as Ryan Fitzpatrick, though he’s been fun and a great leader for the 2019 team, is not the long-term answer. What’s clear, however, is that Miami needs to improve the offensive line for whoever is playing quarterback.

Meanwhile, even after drafting Christian Wilkins in the first round last year and after re-signing DeVante Parker to an extension, you could see Miami looking at either of those spots as well. Again, the draft is an open book for this franchise.

The advantage of that position for the Dolphins is that they can allow the 2020 NFL Draft to come to them. They don’t have to reach as they can look for value and be addressing a need when they pick value. And while they won’t build a competitive roster through one draft class and even free agency as well, they can lay the centerpieces for the franchise moving forward.

With all that in mind, let’s see how the Miami Dolphins can do that in this mid-December seven-round 2020 mock draft.
