Seattle Seahawks: Studs and duds vs. Panthers in Week 15
By Samuel Teets
Stud: Tyler Lockett, WR
For the first nine weeks of the season, Tyler Lockett posted Pro Bowl numbers. However, in the four games before Week 15, he caught just eight passes for 107 yards. The cold streak torpedoed his Pro Bowl numbers, but Lockett is still in the midst of the best season of his career.
In the first half against Carolina, Lockett caught all three balls thrown his way for 73 yards and a touchdown. That alone was the most receiving yards he’s produced since Week 9.
Lockett’s hot hand continued in the second half. He finished the game with eight receptions on nine targets for 120 yards and a touchdown. It was his fourth 100-yard game of the season and the third-most receiving yards he’s produced this year.
Dud: Jarran Reed, DT
The fourth-year defensive tackle is costing himself money with his mediocre performances. Reed, who recorded 10.5 sacks last season, is struggling this year. Reed, who was suspended six games to start the season, will be a free agent this offseason.
In his eight games this year, Reed has 19 tackles, 1.5 sacks and seven quarterback hits. In comparison, he generated 50 tackles, 10.5 sacks and 24 quarterback hits in 2018. Even with the addition of Jadeveon Clowney, who has missed the last few games, Reed is struggling mightily. It’s clear he misses Frank Clark.
Against the Panthers, Reed produced two tackles and one quarterback hit. The Seahawks need more pressure out of their young defensive tackle.
