Fantasy Focus

As the season rolls on, it’s only appropriate that every week I discuss a little about America’s new favorite past-time: Fantasy Football.

I’ve wanted to compare Drew Brees and Tom Brady for some time now, yet I couldn’t find the right time to do it. Considering both legends are vying for the record for passing touchdowns (Brady can still pass Brees this season), I figured now was a better time than ever.

There are numerous differences between Brees and Brady, like how Brees looks much younger than Brady on the field, but I found it interesting how different each quarterback’s fantasy seasons have gone so far.

According to FantasyPros.com, Brees was the seventh quarterback drafted on average while Brady was the 16th. The nine-slot difference seems to have been a pretty solid indicator of things to come, as Brees has averaged the 10th-most fantasy points per game while Brady is the 17th among quarterbacks (in ESPN standard leagues).

Keep in mind, Matt Stafford and Jeff Driskel have averaged more than Brees and Brady, so you can knock them up a couple of ranks. Even with Brees’ four missed games, he has still outperformed Brady.

The past five games have spelled the same story. Brees posted four games of over 20 points while Brady’s only posted one. Of course, their similarities and differences extend far beyond fantasy football, which makes this another topic I might dive deeper into at a later date.
