NFL Notebook, Week 15: Lamar Jackson, rebuild candidates, mock draft and more

College Football Corner
While I don’t watch as much Saturday football as I do on Sunday, I still have plenty to say about all the happenings in college football. Here are some quick thoughts…
- No surprise about Joe Burrow blowing away the competition in Heisman voting. Jalen Hurts, Justin Fields and Chase Young all deserved to be there, but none of them have done what Burrow has. All are phenomenal players who were simply outshined by Burrow.
- The USC situation is getting ugly. Fans have threatened the school over coach Clay Helton’s security. That’s a bit far, even if I agree with them that Helton should be fired.
- The AP All-American teams were announced, and I could nitpick it. There are so many players involved and it’s so subjective, I don’t really care enough. I did find it interesting how many CFP players were on it, though.
- Fine, here’s a nitpick: Rodrigo Blankenship is not the second-best kicker in the country.
- If a player doesn’t want to play in a bowl game, so be it. What’s so wrong about him looking out for himself and his future? I used to be against this trend, though I’m sure he’ll get enough grief from elsewhere about missing his team’s bowl game.
- My 2020 Heisman sleeper pick that won’t be a sleeper for long: Spencer Rattler, QB, Oklahoma.
- My favorite bowl name: Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl. It’s in Tampa and features UCF and Marshall.
- My least-favorite bowl name: Any name longer than four words, with the exception of the Gasparilla Bowl. Keep it simple.
- I miss the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. So much better (and more nostalgic) than the Playstation Fiesta Bowl.
