1. Russell Wilson states MVP case

In recent weeks, the 2019 MVP has slipped away from Wilson. Lamar Jackson is breaking records and, despite not passing for large yardage totals, is posting eye-catching performances. On the other hand, Wilson posted four sub-100.0 passer ratings in the previous five weeks. This comes after he posted eight games with a passer rating above 100.0 through the first nine weeks.

Wilson got his MVP campaign temporarily back on track against the Carolina Panthers last week. He completed 76.92% of his pass attempts and put up a 137.7 passer rating. That’s his second-highest rating of the season. However, if Wilson wants a real shot at the MVP, he needs two memorable performances in these final two weeks.

The Cardinals have the worst pass defense in the NFL, allowing 290.4 yards per game and 34 passing touchdowns this season. At the same time, Arizona is tied for the third-fewest interceptions this year with seven. Wilson will certainly have the chance for a big game.

Objectively, the MVP award may already be lost. Even if Wilson plays well over the next two weeks, public opinion and the power of narrative are clearly behind Jackson. Nevertheless, Wilson is one of the best players in the NFL to have never won an MVP. He should get one before he retires.
