The defensive tackle spot has been a sore spot for the Dallas Cowboys this season. Here, we look ahead to some potential free agents they could add in 2020.

Due to their trade with the Oakland Raiders, the Dallas Cowboys didn’t have a pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. They were happy with the move as Amari Cooper was what they expected him to be and has opened up the offense tremendously.

That made their second-round pick their first in the draft and that was spent on defensive tackle Trysten Hill. So far, Hills hasn’t lived up to his draft status, recording just five tackles on the season.

It’s a bit frustrating for fans who are remembering the failed 2017 draft where they took Taco Charlton over T.J. Watt. Charlton is already gone and Watt has 33 sacks for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Just like that draft, fans had their eyes on another player — with most of the fan base split between Virginia’s Juan Thornhill and Washington’s Taylor Rapp. Each of those rookie safeties is starting this season and Dallas could really use someone on the back end of their defense.

This isn’t to say the Trysten Hill pick was a waste (as he was expected to be a project) but the Cowboys can’t go into 2020 banking on the light bulb to come on for him. Instead, they need to treat him as a developing player until he proves otherwise.

With this being the case, they would be wise to look to free agency to add a veteran that could help as they bring Hill along. Here we look at seven potential additions, but first, we start with three current Cowboys with expiring deals.
