Award Predictions, Part 2

Offensive Rookie of the Year: Josh Jacobs

There haven’t been many great offensive rookies, but there’s been some good ones. Kyler Murray has come on strong as of late, while a handful of wide receivers have gone off in recent weeks. Unfortunately, none have been as consistently impactful as Jacobs has been. He’s eighth in rushing yards and 12th in yards from scrimmage, which should be enough to convince voters that he deserves this award.

Defensive Rookie of the Year: Nick Bosa

Josh Allen and Devin Bush have a strong case for this award, though Nick Bosa’s case is stronger. Headlining a dominant defensive line, Bosa is third in the NFL in tackles for loss. He’s also second to Allen in sacks among rookies. Simply put, Bosa has made a much bigger dent on the field than Allen has, and Bosa’s impact is clear on a great San Fransisco defense.

Coach of the Year: Sean McDermott

Kyle Shanahan could easily take this home and I wouldn’t complain. Prior to the season, Mike Tomlin was handed a ravaged roster and he turned it into a playoff contender, too. Despite those coaches’ respective jobs, I have to give this to McDermott. The 49ers had some hype heading into the year and the Steelers are never bad enough to count out. Who was talking about the Bills? McDermott has made them relevant for the first time since the 90s.

Comeback Player of the Year: Ryan Tannehill

It’s amazing what happens when you’re freed from Adam Gase. After six average seasons  in Miami (three under Gase), Tannehill has thrust new life into a Tennessee team that’s suddenly contending for the playoffs. Since Tannehill overtook Marcus Mariota, the Titans are 6-3 with their last two losses coming within striking distance of a victory.
