With the door to the playoffs shut, the Chicago Bears now look to improve for 2020. One way is through the draft. Here is my first mock draft for the season.

Well, the Chicago Bears‘ hope for the playoffs is dashed. After the final regular-season game, their concern automatically turns to improve for the 2020 season. There are free agents the Bears will look at but the other way to go is through the NFL Draft. There are hundreds of prospects who front offices around the league have to choose from to help improve their teams.

The Bears hope that some of these young men come to Chicago to help the Bears repeat the success of the 2018 season and hopefully go further.

While there are a few needs the Bears have to target, there may be some that they won’t do through the draft. Yes, they need a tight end, but I think the team is happy to have a healthy Trey Burton. He did well in 2018 but was never healthy in 2019. Hopefully, he returns to full strength during the offseason and plays well once again. The Bears will go through free agency for help behind him, though.

There is also the controversial quarterback position. Mitchell Trubisky is general manager Ryan Pace’s guy and I don’t think anything has changed. With improvements around him, perhaps the young quarterback finally reaches the heights Pace and the Chicago Bears coaching staff have for him.

With that said, I believe Pace brings in some competition. That competition won’t come through the draft, however. If Pace drafts someone he’s signaling that even he lost hope for Trubisky. He can pick up a veteran quarterback (one who is not a big name) through free agency and have a battle in camp. Whatever happens, they’ll have a starter and a backup and each one gets good work in that’ll help prepare for the regular season.

Without further delay, here is my first Chicago Bears mock draft for 2020.
