Round 7: Jonathan Garvin, EDGE, Miami

It’s really interesting looking at the Cowboys roster. They have so many questions to answer as there are several key players hitting free agency. We continually hear about Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper, and Byron Jones. But what gets lost in the mix are role players such as Randall Cobb, Maliek Collins, and edge rushers Robert Quinn and Michael Bennett.

Bennett was a mid-season addition and has been a great find. In eight games, he has four sacks and 25 tackles but for some reason, the team shortened his contract after trading for him.

As for Quinn, he was added before the season in a trade with the Miami Dolphins. In Dallas, he’s had a career-resurgence, recording a team-high 10.5 sacks, which is his first double-digit sack season since 2014 with the St. Louis Rams.

There’s no telling what the team will do there. It would be nice to have both back but that could be hard to do. If they had to pick one, Quinn seems to be the logical choice but he may have priced himself out of their range with the season he had.

One way or another, Dallas has to add some depth. They do that with their final pick in this 2020 NFL Mock Draft by picking up Jonathan Garvin from Miami. Garvin joins former Hurrican teammate Joe Jackson, who Dallas really likes as a defensive end but the fifth-round pick didn’t get a lot of action as a rookie.

Garvin clearly looks the part as he’s built like a defensive end at 6-4 and 250 pounds. But he needs a lot of work on his technique if he wants to succeed in the NFL. Hopefully, he will be able to learn from working with pros like DeMarcus Lawrence as well as Quinn in Dallas.
