Though the Ohio State Buckeyes may not have made it to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, their defense showed against Trevor Lawrence and a litany of stud wide receivers for Clemson why they’re so dangerous. And one player that played a big part in that was cornerback Jeffrey Okudah, someone that could come in and help the Giants defense in a big way from Day 1.

Despite the fact that New York selected Deandre Baker at the end of the first round in 2019, the Giants secondary is still severely lacking (and Baker has been picked on all season). Yes, the Giants have other needs but whenever you have a cornerback with the lockdown skills of Okudah available and need to upgrade the defensive back group, it’s hard to say no to him.

Of the many areas in which the Giants defense has been lacking in recent years, their edge presence has been arguably their most glaring weakness. Since the departure (by their own doing) of Jason Pierre-Paul, New York just has not been able to consistently find a pass rush off of the edge. They have intriguing players like Lorenzo Carter and solid youth on the interior but there’s nothing more to speak of.

Selecting Terrell Lewis out of Alabama in the second round would help to alleviate that issue for the G-Men. Lewis checks every box as an impressive playmaker off of the edge. He can effectively be an every-down player for New York. The issue for Lewis, however, has been his health. But after a largely healthy 2019 season with the Crimson Tide, he’s well worth a second-round risk on the part of Big Blue.
