Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Safety

This will be a tough decision for the Chicago Bears. They were able to pick up Ha Ha Clinton-Dix this past offseason on a team-friendly deal. For the past several seasons, teams around the league haven’t valued safeties. A few safeties who thought they’d cash in on their good seasons ended up signing for less money, Clinton-Dix included.

Clinton-Dix had a pretty good season, but not a special season that many expected. He played the free safety spot that Eddie Jackson manned excellently for two seasons. As a result, Jackson, while still making the Pro Bowl, didn’t have the “wow” season that he had in his first two years. On the final play of the 2019 season, he recorded his second interception of the season after recording sixf last season.

Clinton-Dix finished the season with 78 tackles, 5 passes defended, two interceptions (one run back for a touchdown) and two fumble recoveries.

Are those numbers deserving of a big contract renewal? I’m not sure. If Clinton-Dix again doesn’t receive the offers he expects the Bears could re-sign him at a lower cost. What the front office and the coaching staff need to decide is whether it’s beneficial for Jackson to move back to the free safety slot. If so, then they’ll thank Clinton-Dix for his services and move on.
