Scouting Report. . player. 879. Pick Analysis. Clemson. A.J. Terrell. 3

A.J. Terrell has quick feet and at 6-1, 190 pounds has the size teams covet. He has great balance and can crowd the receiver, making a catch more difficult. He plays well at the catch point and does a good job of lodging the ball off the receiver’s hands. Also, he does a good job of using the sideline as extra help. His hips are fluid and loose, and that helps him change direction with ease.

Terrell was third-team All-ACC last season but got a lot of attention when he took an interception in for a touchdown in the National Championship Game against Alabama last season. His touchdown was the first defensive touchdown in the history of the College Football Playoff.

Terrell doesn’t have a problem with contact, but he sometimes doesn’t use proper technique. He is willing to scrap, however, getting his nose in and cause disruption. At the very least, he’ll slow ball carriers enough for someone else to tag them with a hit. For his career, he has 96 tackles, six interceptions and 12 passes defended.

He does a great job of knocking receivers off their routes at the line of scrimmage. That forces the receiver to try to get back at it and Terrell doesn’t need to get handsy to keep the receiver near him.

Terrell sometimes runs into trouble when he underestimates how deep a pass is going. At times he gets beaten deep because of that misjudgment.

Terrell has the traits that teams look for in a corner. The problems he has are fixable and he could be a good corner in the NFL. The Bears could pick him up in the middle rounds and he could provide depth initially and eventually fight for a starting job.
