4. Greg Roman

Current Position: Ravens offensive coordinator

Everyone on the Ravens coaching staff has been lauded this season for the job they’ve done with Lamar Jackson and designing the offense around their quarterback. A big part of that is John Harbaugh fully buying in but Greg Roman doing the same and catering the offense to the unique talent on the Baltimore roster deserves plenty of credit as well. That’s why the Browns should be and are interested in him.

Cleveland has already requested an interview with Roman and been granted it by the Ravens. The one concern with Roman, however, is that he’s been a proven offensive mind in the league for some time and has still yet to be a head coach in the NFL. That leads you to wonder if he has the leadership qualities to be the disciplinarian needed at the helm of a team but he’s an attractive candidate for his offensive prowess nonetheless.

3. Mike McCarthy

Current Position: Unemployed, former Packers head coach

To be sure, Mike McCarthy is not unemployed because he’s no longer qualified to be an NFL head coach. Instead, he chose to take a year off after being dismissed by the Packers and now figures to be a hot commodity for a team like the Browns.

While the struggles between McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers have been well-documented, the crux of that comes down to the head coach having control of his team and the quarterback wanting more of his own freedom. That type of totalitarian type of control, particularly on offense, is exactly the type of thing the Browns need.

With success and experience as a head coach on his side, McCarthy might not be the sexiest hire that Cleveland could make but all signs point to the fact that he could well be the right hire.
