The Minnesota Vikings opened up the 2020 NFL Playoffs on Sunday afternoon by going into a tough road environment while facing off against a potential Super Bowl contender in the New Orleans Saints. The No. 6-seeded Vikings traveled to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to face the third-seeded Saints in the first NFC Wild Card Round matchup of Sunday.
Minnesota came away with a really impressive overtime victory on the road, coming away with a 26-20 victory to advance to the next round of the playoffs.
The Vikings got out to a lead on the road to jump out ahead of the Saints early on while taking on New Orleans on its home field. Minnesota opened the first half of action up by outscoring New Orleans, 13-10, in the first two quarters to grab a three-point lead going into halftime.
In the second half, the Saints battled back and evened things up, outscoring the Vikings, 10-7, in the final two quarters to force overtime in New Orleans. In overtime, Kirk Cousins and the Vikings stepped up, with the quarterback finding tight end Kyle Rudolph in the endzone on the opening drive to steal the playoff contest in upset fashion.
With the win, Minnesota will advance to the NFC Divisional Round next weekend and will take on the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers next Sunday in the second round of the playoffs at San Francisco.
