New England Patriots: 5 Offseason moves to keep dynasty alive
2. Get some weapons
The obvious issues from the regular season remained obvious issues on Saturday night in the loss to the Titans. While Sony Michel and the rushing offense succeeded early, they fell off as the game wore on. Furthermore, Tom Brady continued to look immensely frustrated in his pass-catchers as he simply didn’t have any options that he trusted outside of James White, N’Keal Harry and Julian Edelman.
That holds true when you look at the box score as James White led the Patriots in receiving with five catches for 62 yards while Harry led the team in targets (7) and Edelman was tied with White and Sanu for second on the team with five targets. What’s clear, however, is that the offense simply isn’t open because they don’t have the guys to make it happen.
It’s difficult to say just how the Patriots should go about improving their offensive weapons but they have options. If they could make another discount veteran signing of a player like A.J. Green, that would be huge for New England. Moreover, targeting a deep 2020 wide receiver class in the draft and trying to use an early pick on someone like Brycen Hopkins or Hunter Bryant could serve them well.
No matter the case, this offense isn’t going to be as quality as it needs to be if the weapons don’t get better. Regardless of who’s playing quarterback, it’s hard to win in the NFL if there aren’t enough players to trust in the passing attack.
