2. Negative: Start to the 2019 campaign

For basically the entire first half of the season, Atlanta was one of the worst teams in the NFL while burying itself in a deep hole right of the gate.

That rough start to the year ultimately haunted the Falcons and held them back from trying to put together a strong finish to the season to make an appearance in the playoffs like other teams currently are experiencing around the league.

After going winless in the four preseason contests, although it’s hard to look too far into how teams perform in preseason games and compare that to regular-season games, that trend carried into the first half of the year for Atlanta once the contests actually started counting.

In the first eight games of the regular season leading up to their Week 9 bye, the Falcons went into that week off riding a six-game losing streak while carrying an overall record of 1-7.

That start to the year, which did come against some of the top teams in the NFL, basically eliminated Atlanta from playoff contention before the season was halfway completed.

The Falcons did finish the year strong by winning six of their final eight games while ending the year on a four-game winning streak, but that start to the 2019 campaign and the losing ways that they experienced throughout that span haunted Atlanta and will continue to do so going into the offseason.
