The Dallas Cowboys have moved on from Jason Garrett, hired Mike McCarthy and can now move forward, which they do in this 7-round 2020 mock draft.

It’s been a whirlwind week for the Dallas Cowboys at the start of their 2020 offseason. It took three exit interviews before they dismissed Jason Garrett, which didn’t officially happen until Sunday night. But then less than 18 hours after he was officially let go, the Cowboys reportedly agreed to a deal with former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy to be their next sideline leader.

There is still a ton of drama and/or excitement left for the Cowboys this offseason still, however. Dallas still needs to lock up quarterback Dak Prescott either to a long-term deal or on the franchise tag while negotiating with wide receiver Amari Cooper as well. On top of that, other free agency decisions may be difficult to make given their salary cap situation.

Subsequently, for McCarthy to step into a great situation, Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones and the Cowboys front office will need to work well in the 2020 NFL Draft. This is one of the most talented overall rosters in the NFL — which makes it all the more shameful that they went 8-8 this season — but there are areas of concern that must be addressed.

Dallas’ secondary will likely be a focus in the 2020 NFL Draft. Not only has safety long been a need for this team but the Cowboys could be forced to part with Byron Jones, which opens up a big hole at cornerback that must be filled. On the other side of the ball, the need for a reliable (and young) tight end persists after they resorted to luring Jason Witten out of retirement in 2019.

Beyond those primary needs, defensive line and offensive line depth are of concern and the Cowboys could also look for depth at wide receiver additionally. Put simply, this team can make plenty of moves to get better in the draft — it’s all about value and finding the right guys to help McCarthy succeed as he arrives.

Let’s try and get the new Cowboys head coach those guys as we maneuver through the 2020 NFL Draft in this new seven-round mock draft.
