2020 NFL Draft: 12 Standouts from college football bowl season
9. Damonte Coxie, WR, Memphis
After the first crop of receivers are taken in the 2020 draft, teams will still have great options in the later rounds. One of the many options teams will want to look at is Damonte Coxie. He’s a classic boundary receiver with length thanks to his 6-3, 197 pounds. In his 2019 finale, he finished with eight catches for 132 yards.
During the Cotton Bowl matchup against Penn State, former Memphis wide receiver and possible future NFL Hall-of-Famer, Issac Bruce said a few things that all NFL Draft geeks should know about Damonte Coxie; he’s big, athletic, and attacks the ball in the air.
The Tigers didn’t come away victorious but Coxie’s draft stock likely soared. He showed that he’s a reliable volume target. Brady White targeted Coxie 15 times he caught eight passes for 132 yards. For those who saw Coxie for the first time, they witnessed his excellent body control. But it wasn’t his first time abusing a defense as he did the same things against SMU.
He works the sideline well with excellent balls skills, as evidenced by his catch between two defenders. He’s an ideal fit for a vertical offense that uses their boundary receivers in-breaking routes. Coxie is not a deep threat in the traditional sense but he makes plays like many big boundary receivers.
